Rome: Total War is a popular strategy game from Creative Assembly that puts you in control of massive armies that must battle their way through Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Total War is a hugely popular series of games, and Rome: Total War is one of the reasons why this franchise has won countless awards over the years. In Rome: Total War, you are going to play as an ancient civilization that must take over most of the known world. In order to defeat your enemies, you will need to be an excellent battlefield commander as well as an astute politician who can keep his citizens happy.

While there are a few different game types to choose from, most of the campaigns are going to be won in a similar manner. You start each campaign by choosing a civilization or faction of Rome. In the game itself, you must manage cities, maneuver your armies, and engage in battles with other armies. The game is essentially broken down into two distinct sections, and they equally important. In the turn-based campaign map, you are going to build cities, set tax rates, engage in diplomacy, and move units around. When your army comes into contact with an opposing army, Rome turns into a real-time strategy game.

While the vanilla edition of Rome: Total War is relatively bland, Creative Assembly and third-party developers have released a variety of patches and mods that greatly improve the game. This game also has quite a bit of replayability because of the complexity of each culture and faction. Even though the graphics are dated, this is still one of the most iconic strategy games ever created.
